How can I remove fine scratches from glass cook-top?

posted in fine cooking |

Less than two months ago I got a new Whirlpool glass cooktop range. I used an abbrasive pad to try to remove cooked-on food and now the glass has a cluster of tiny scratches in it. Any advice on how to remove it? I didn’t think glass can scratch that way! Thanks.
Thank you all for the great responses; at least I know there is hope now.

When the unit was delivered, you should have been informed not to use abrasives, or store anything heavy in cupboards above the range, including glass salt and pepper shakers. The glass is just under 1 inch thick, but very fragile. Sears and other dealers to carry a cleaner and cover-up solution.

This happens quite often; check with the store where you bought it or someplace like a Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menard’s, etc…anyplace that sells kitchen appliances. Most manufacturers sell cleaners made especially for cleaning their cooktops, and very likely will have some sort of rubbing-coupound-like stuff which will either take the scratches out or minimize their appearance.

Do a web search for Janvil.com, they make glass and plastic scratch remover products, also you may check with the store where you bought the stove…..I use greased lightening and a nylon scrub pad to clean my glass top and it works well, plus you can use a straight edge blade to clean stubborn areas, as well as a cleaning polish made for glass top stoves. Good Luck

Try White toothpaste on your finger. It works well on things like glass watch crystals too.
